Epilepsy Education

Did you know? 1% of people in the United States have epilepsy. In a school of 2,000 students, that means it’s possible for as many as 20 students who may have a seizure without warning in a classroom, cafeteria, gym, hallway or bus.
Epilepsy Education can help develop a more accepting and nurturing environment for the 300,000 school children in the United States diagnosed with seizure disorder. Schools throughout Maryland and Virginia have found success from these programs in their schools
Abilities Network/Epilepsy Foundation of the Chesapeake Region offers a variety of FREE presentations on epilepsy to fit the need for students, faculty, parents, school nurses, bus drivers, and other school personnel.

Professional Advisory Board

Since beginning services in 1964, Abilities Network/Epilepsy Foundation of the Chesapeake Region (EFCR) has sought the advice of professionals to assist us in providing quality services to people with disabilities.

The main role of the EFCR’s Professional Advisory Board (PAB) is to guide policies particular to reliable evaluation of EFCR’s programs. Members of the PAB serve as liaisons to other professional associations in the community served by EFCR.  They also counsel on the maintenance of appropriate communication, with a relationship to various fields of professional practice related to the major undertakings of EFCR.

The board meets twice a year. Throughout the year members of the board are called on to assist with epilepsy education as well as public relations issues.
